Aquamira

What is an Aquamira?

Aquamira is a two-part liquid water purification system that uses chlorine dioxide to disinfect water in the backcountry. The system consists of Part A (sodium chlorite) and Part B (phosphoric acid) that are mixed together and then added to untreated water to kill bacteria, viruses, and protozoa including Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Popular among backpackers and hikers, Aquamira is lightweight, doesn't require batteries or pumping, and improves the taste of treated water compared to iodine-based purifiers, though it requires a 15-30 minute wait time for full effectiveness.
