Breathability

What is breathability?

Breathability is a fabric's ability to allow moisture vapor (like sweat) to pass through it while maintaining protection from external elements. In outdoor gear, breathable fabrics help regulate body temperature and prevent moisture buildup inside clothing and equipment by allowing perspiration to escape. This feature is crucial for hiking and backpacking gear like rain jackets, base layers, and tent fabrics, as it keeps you comfortable and dry from the inside while maintaining weather protection. Higher breathability ratings indicate better moisture vapor transmission, which is essential for active outdoor pursuits where overheating and condensation can be problematic.
