Chemical Treatment

What is chemical treatment?

Chemical treatment is a water purification method that uses chemical agents like iodine tablets, chlorine dioxide, or water purification drops to kill bacteria, viruses, and parasites in untreated water sources. This lightweight and compact purification option is popular among backpackers and hikers as an alternative or backup to filtration systems. Chemical treatments typically require a waiting period of 30 minutes to 4 hours for full effectiveness, and some may leave a slight taste that can be neutralized with flavoring tablets or vitamin C.
