Closed-cell Foam

What is closed-cell foam?

Closed-cell foam is a type of insulation material commonly used in camping gear where the foam cells are sealed and don't connect to each other, preventing air and moisture from passing through. It's most frequently found in sleeping pads, sit pads, and insulation layers in outdoor gear because it provides excellent thermal insulation, waterproofing, and durability. Unlike open-cell foam, closed-cell foam won't absorb water and maintains its insulating properties even when wet, making it ideal for ground insulation and emergency shelter situations. It's lightweight, compressible, and offers reliable R-value performance for preventing heat loss to the ground during camping.
