Established Site
What is an established site?
An established site is a designated camping location that has been previously used and shows clear signs of regular occupation, such as a fire ring, cleared tent pad, or worn pathways. These sites are typically located in campgrounds, backcountry areas, or popular wilderness destinations where land managers have identified appropriate spots for camping to minimize environmental impact. Using established sites helps protect fragile ecosystems by concentrating camping activity in already-impacted areas rather than creating new disturbances. Most Leave No Trace principles and wilderness regulations encourage or require campers to use established sites when available.
