Scramble
What is a scramble?
A scramble is a type of hiking or climbing route that requires the use of hands as well as feet to navigate steep, rocky terrain. It falls between regular hiking and technical rock climbing, typically involving Class 3 or easy Class 4 terrain where hikers must grab onto rocks, ledges, or other natural features for balance and progress. Scrambles are common when ascending steep mountain faces, navigating boulder fields, or crossing exposed ridgelines, and they require good balance, basic climbing skills, and often the use of approach shoes or climbing shoes for better grip.
