Scree

What is scree?

Scree is loose rock debris and small stones that accumulate on mountain slopes, typically found below cliff faces or steep terrain. For hikers and mountaineers, scree fields present challenging terrain that requires careful foot placement and technique, as the unstable rocks can shift underfoot and create avalanche-like movement. Proper scree hiking involves taking smaller steps, maintaining balance, and sometimes using a controlled sliding technique when descending to navigate these unstable surfaces safely.
