Talus
What is talus?
Talus is a slope or pile of loose rock fragments and boulders that have broken off from cliff faces or steep rock walls due to weathering and erosion. For hikers and climbers, talus fields present challenging terrain that requires careful navigation, as the unstable rocks can shift underfoot and create hazardous footing. These rocky slopes are commonly encountered in mountainous regions and require hikers to move slowly and deliberately, testing each step to avoid ankle injuries or rockfall that could endanger others below.
