Waypoint

What is a waypoint?

A waypoint is a specific geographic location or reference point along a hiking trail or outdoor route, typically marked by GPS coordinates. Waypoints serve as navigation checkpoints that help hikers and backpackers track their progress, confirm their location, and navigate safely through unfamiliar terrain. They can be natural landmarks like distinctive rock formations or trail junctions, or artificially created points stored in GPS devices and mapping apps to mark important locations such as water sources, campsites, or hazard areas.
