Small Form Factor (SFF)

pc

A technical specification for computer cases and systems that are significantly reduced in size compared to standard desktop PCs.

expanded

Small Form Factor (SFF) refers to computer systems and cases designed to occupy less physical space while maintaining functionality comparable to larger systems. SFF PCs are advantageous in environments where space is limited, such as in compact workstations, point-of-sale terminals, and for use in environments where a minimal footprint is essential. Despite their reduced size, they often support modern hardware and offer sufficient performance for a wide range of applications.

examples

A Shuttle XPC SZ270R8 Barebone is an SFF computer designed for high-performance tasks, featuring a chassis volume of approximately 14.2 liters (0.5 cubic feet), supporting up to four 3.5-inch hard drives and dual-slot graphics cards.

Commonly used in environments such as graphic design studios or home offices where high-performance computing is required within a compact physical space.

The Dell OptiPlex 7050 Micro has a volume of approximately 1.17 liters (0.041 cubic feet) and supports up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, aiming to deliver desktop-level performance in a much smaller form.

Typically used in corporate settings for administrative tasks, where desk space is minimal and energy efficiency is prioritized.
