Gerber Files

What are Gerber files?

Gerber files are the standard file format used to describe the layers of a printed circuit board (PCB) for manufacturing. These files contain precise geometric data that tells PCB fabrication machines where to etch copper traces, drill holes, place solder mask, and apply silkscreen text. Each layer of the PCB (top copper, bottom copper, solder mask, etc.) is represented by a separate Gerber file, collectively forming a complete manufacturing blueprint that PCB manufacturers use to produce physical circuit boards.
