Lead-free
What is a lead-free component?
A lead-free component is an electronic part or solder that contains no lead (Pb) or contains lead below regulated threshold levels, typically less than 0.1% by weight. Lead-free materials became standard in electronics manufacturing due to environmental and health regulations like RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), which restrict the use of toxic lead in consumer electronics. Common lead-free solder alloys include tin-silver-copper (SAC) formulations, which have different melting points and handling characteristics compared to traditional lead-based solders.
