Optoisolation

What is optoisolation?

Optoisolation is a method of electrical isolation that uses light to transfer signals between circuits while maintaining complete electrical separation. It typically employs an LED on the input side that converts electrical signals to light, and a photodetector on the output side that converts the light back to electrical signals. This technique prevents electrical noise, ground loops, and dangerous voltages from passing between circuits while still allowing data or control signals to be transmitted safely.
