What is a parallel circuit?

A parallel circuit is an electrical circuit where components are connected alongside each other, creating multiple paths for current to flow. In this configuration, each component receives the same voltage as the power source, but the total current is divided among the different branches. If one component fails or is removed, current can still flow through the other branches, allowing remaining components to continue operating. Parallel circuits are commonly used in household wiring, car electrical systems, and electronic devices where independent operation of components is desired.

Series Circuit

A series circuit is an electrical circuit where components are connected end-to-end in a single path, so current flows through each component sequentially. In this configuration, the same current passes through all components, but voltage divides across each element based on its resistance or impedance. If any component fails or is disconnected, the entire circuit stops working since there's only one path for current flow. Series circuits are commonly used in applications like holiday lights, voltage dividers, and battery packs.
