Socket

What is a socket?

A socket is a female connector or receptacle designed to receive and make electrical contact with a corresponding male connector, component, or plug. It provides a removable connection point that allows components like integrated circuits, processors, or cables to be easily inserted, removed, or replaced without soldering. Sockets are commonly used for CPUs, memory modules, light bulbs, and various electronic components, offering convenience for maintenance, upgrades, and modular system design.
