Tri-state

What is a tri-state?

A tri-state is a digital logic output that can exist in three distinct states: high (1), low (0), and high-impedance (Z or floating). In the high-impedance state, the output is effectively disconnected from the circuit, allowing multiple devices to share the same signal line without interference. This capability is essential in bus systems and multi-device communication where devices must be able to release control of shared lines when not actively transmitting data.
