Base Layer

What is a base layer?

A base layer is the innermost layer of clothing worn directly against the skin in outdoor layering systems. It serves to wick moisture away from the body and regulate temperature during hiking, backpacking, and other outdoor activities. Base layers are typically made from synthetic materials like polyester or natural fibers like merino wool, providing insulation when dry and maintaining warmth even when wet, making them essential for multi-season outdoor adventures.
