Mid Layer

What is a mid layer?

A mid layer is an insulating garment worn between a base layer and outer shell in a layered clothing system for outdoor activities. It provides thermal insulation by trapping warm air close to the body while allowing moisture to pass through to outer layers. Common mid layer materials include fleece, down, or synthetic insulation, and they can be easily added or removed as conditions change to help regulate body temperature during hiking, backpacking, and camping.
